Florida Schools Ordered By Law To Display ‘In God We Trust’ Signs

This has to be hitting courtrooms soon, it's a clear constitutional violation...

Children heading back to school in Florida this month will have a new message waiting for them as required by law: “In God We Trust.”

An education bill signed into law by Gov. Rick Scott (R) in March includes a mandate that all public schools in the Sunshine State must now display those four words in each building that’s used by the district school board.

Statue Title XLVIII Chapter 1003 was approved by the state House in February by a 97 to 10 vote, after being sponsored by Rep. Kimberly Daniels, a Democrat from Jacksonville who runs a Christian ministry. Daniels cited the then-recent shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, for displaying the religious text, stating God is the “light” and “our schools need light in them like never before.”
Yeah....a sign about a non-existent, malevolent sky-fairy will stop bullets. Stupid fuckers.
“Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.” Terry Pratchett

Let's have a moment of silence about all this.

This is clearly a violation of separation of church and state, but I have no idea how the current Supreme Court would rule on this.

they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
Okay, Obama was talking about the rust belt folks back in 2008 but this is still reflected in GOP strategy.

Gut the EPA, raid the treasury with the huge tax cut for the rich, etc....

Keep people distracted with guns and religion.

hmmm. What do they trust God to do? Apparently it they trust that God will create mass murdering psychopaths, arm them with guns, and not only do nothing to stop them, but rather help other psychopaths gain political power to ensure that as many psychopaths as possible have as easy access to as many guns as possible.

Well, at least they are sensible about what the God of Abraham could be trusted to do, if he actually existed.

This should probably be in the CSS forum.

There are a slathering of states, all currently in the south, that are subject to this pretty regularly. I served on the Board of Directors of Kansas Citizens for Science for several years, and we were pretty much constantly fighting the yokels that wanted this, and to eliminate any science standards. (See the film or book "What's the Matter with Kansas" for a good documentary on our work.)

Well said. In God We Trust, but here's the mass shooter drill of the month, kids.

In God We Trust means that we can be sure that things will work out for the best if we do our best to help ourselves. What better message could you give a kid in school that working hard will reap its rewards.
Liberals are really bad at slogans. City folk just don't get it, for sure.

    Reps: Make America Great

Dems: Give up everything that bothers anyone
