The atoms live forever. 'Life after death' is for atoms that constitute us. Individuality ceases.

Hindus prefer to cremate the bodies on the same day if they can before sunset or otherwise as early as possible the next day. The rituals begin four days with the collection of ashes which are to be immersed in Ganges (preferably) or in the river or lake in the region where that is done traditionally. Then on 10,11 and 13th day. After that, the monthly remembrances for one year, and later an yearly remembrance day. Pilgrimage to some pilgrimage centers after death will also include rituals. Gaya in Bihar is the ultimate of such places in North India. Kashmiri brahmins used to immerse ashes in Gangbal lake (3,575 metres, 11,729 ft), a trek of 40 kms from the road-head.

First of all atoms don't live. They are not a form of life.

And they did not and do not exist forever.

All living and non-living are but combinations of atoms. When would a carbon atom on earth will change into something else? Give me a hint. I am not talking of radioactive elements.

    Atoms eventually decay.

    They are temporary structures.

Life is made up of atoms at one level, but life behaves nothing like atoms. Atoms do not have thoughts or desires.

New properties emerge as atoms are arranged in certain ways.

Emergent properties of an arrangement of atoms, sure. Atoms do decay, but that does not make any difference to the universe. We will have no more, no less energy than what we started with.

The universe is not a thing that cares if there are atoms or no atoms.

    True.

That is what I said too. However, no atoms, no universe.

Maybe you should look at Laws of Thermodynamics. Also there is universe without atoms.

It will be like a pregnant woman. Possibilities, but no baby yet. No universe.
