    US Space Force

So they're going ahead with it.

Space Command will launch Aug. 29, Vice President Mike Pence says
The U.S. Space Command officially starts Aug. 29, serving as the launching pad for the Space Force, they said. Air Force Gen. John Raymond has been tapped and confirmed by the Senate as its first leader.

    ...
Eventually, an undersecretary of defense for space will be named, and the program – which would start as a division of the U.S. Air Force – would become the sixth armed service, joining the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Coast Guard.
Congress On Verge Of Creating Space Force After Years Of Delays : NPR - couldn't pin down what is now happening from that article.

It is presumably a spinoff of the Air Force's Space Command, and the Air Force itself was a spinoff of the Army Air Forces.

Cue Donovan song, "The Intergalactic Laxative", unofficial theme song for Trump's Space Cadet Corp. (Google Youtube for this.)

When conservatives realize they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will abandon democracy.

It implies it is out of order... making it funnier that he wants to "ride" it anyway.

    Space Farce, amirite?

Seriously though, there may be a need at some point in the future to stand up a division of space deployment for the sake of investigating, and potentially dragging down satellites that can potentially drop shit onto the US.

That said, there is literally ZERO reason that this requires an entire branch command. I think Cheeto has watched one too many star fighter space operas.

Edit: it would also require international cooperation, participation, and oversight.

One of the funnier memes about this:

If it's any consolation, the Air Force office I work in thinks it's all pretty stupid too, and there's lots of stuff like this ^^ on the walls around here.

Operations in space are very different than operations in the air or sea. Space Force makes sense. You need the specialized people with a different approach and expertise and attitude towards things. It just shouldn't be a huge division.
