Millennials Are Leaving Religion And Not Coming Back

At least according to this, Millennials Are Leaving Religion And Not Coming Back | FiveThirtyEight

Four in ten millennials now say they are religiously unaffiliated, according to the Pew Research Center. In fact, millennials (those between the ages of 23 and 38) are now almost as likely to say they have no religion as they are to identify as Christian.

For a long time, though, it wasn’t clear whether this youthful defection from religion would be temporary or permanent. It seemed possible that as millennials grew older, at least some would return to a more traditional religious life. But there’s mounting evidence that today’s younger generations may be leaving religion for good.
    Sweet.

Having read the article the clear message is that religion and religious affiliation just isn't important. For many it's even a negative, pointing out intolerance among religious people as a main reason for not being religious.

People leaving religion should correlate pretty tightly with the spread of science, which has been going on for a few centuries now. I wouldn't expect the U.S. to regress, except in places where science stops being taught.

Speaking as a boomer maybe that's a good thing.

I doubt it correlates strongly with science.

I'd bet it has more to do with consumerism and convenience, and the increasing alienation of individuals as lone consumer-workers and as enterprisers more interested in self-development than following in the footsteps of others. So more like increased 'Me-ism' than rationalism's progress.

The 6s cultural revolution was about throwing away middle class norms and thinking for yourself.

The culture is far worse and insidious than the old middle class culture.

People quote movies and music as sources of wisdom.

Young people are being bred and conditioner to be perfect consumer bots. It is worse than any religion. Some can't libe without religion. Can you live without video and music?

A study has shown very young kids are being conditioned to want things by video advertising.

Far worse than the old cultural norms.
