Mormons amass $100 billion "war chest" in preparation for second coming of Christ

A whistleblower's sworn statement to the IRS "accuses church leaders of misleading members — and possibly breaching federal tax rules — by stockpiling their surplus donations instead of using them for charitable works."

The church claims to have spent about $40 million per year on "welfare, humanitarian aid and other international projects", so 0.04% of this one fund (it's not their only one).

My favorite line in the article: "According to the complaint, Ensign’s president, Roger Clarke, has told others that the amassed funds would be used in the event of the second coming of Christ."

Because as we know, JC is going to need a huge bankroll to get shit done.

Indeed, they are so transparent in their lack of actual faith.

Does the sparrow need to open a trust fund? Hmmm?

They have always been doomsdayers. They have a large bunker complex somewhere.

The Gospels promised the return of Jesus in Power, come to judge the world. It was supposed to happen within the lifetime of the first Christians, yet the timing of the Big Event kept being shifted forward, and is still expected to happen within our lifetimes....

I drive by several of them weekly. They have large 'plant's that are basically huge storehouses of pasta/grains. In theory, they would be used in an emergency, but everyone seems to know that the church would try to reserve them for themselves.

I'm not sure if they realize that if it came to that, they would have to resort to pretty extreme violence to keep the general populace from getting to it.

There is a name for it that escapes me, the continual spinning of scripture to match current events.

The second coming is always just around the corner. There is a Sunday Christian TV show that specializes on it. Did you know Trump is a fulfillment of prophesy?
